Founded by Mawi Keivom and Tim Awan, MAWI offers luxury accessories with a quirky edge. The brands namesake, Mawi, was born in Manipur, North East India to diplomat parents. A creatively rich upbringing and a globetrotting childhood inspired her iconic, distinctly eclectic style and led her to study Fashion Design at the Auckland Institute of Technology in New Zealand.
Upon graduation, Mawi moved to New York and then London, following the dynamically hip and creative hubs to inspire her work. Here she met Tim with who she shared a mutual love of antiques, ornaments and trinkets and the MAWI brand began to form its foundations.
It all began with a charm necklace – a customised item of jewellery to which Mawi added her own jewels and vintage baubles. This original statement piece inspired hundreds of copycat versions across the globe, and led to the successful launch of the MAWI brand at London Fashion Week in 2002. The brand was an instant hit with fashion editors, buyers and stylists all falling head over heels for the innovative blend of cutting-edge fashion with old-school glamour. Mawi had discovered an aspirational niche for high end costume jewellery and accessories; redefining luxury ideals through fashion-forward styling.
Over the years, MAWI has been invited to collaborate with some of the world’s most iconic labels and top fashion houses, including Disney Couture, Atelier Swarovski, Hugo Boss and Selfridges and has also joined forces with designers David Koma, Mark Fast and Temperley London.
