There is no other event on the fashion calendar quite like The Met Gala, co-hosted by Anna Wintour and infamous for its quirky dress code, the red carpet is always sure to be filled with A-listers trying their upmost to score fashion points.
Celebrating the influence of Chinese culture in fashion over the centuries this years theme was set as ‘Chinese White Tie’ with stars decorating themselves in an array of traditional gowns or opting for national shades of red and white, floral embroidery, rich satins and of course plenty of drama as demonstrated by the likes of Rihanna and SJP.
Whilst a statement dress is a natural go to at a major event we were particularly drawn to the unconventional tomboy styling of Sienna Miller in a red Thakoon two piece, Diane Kruger in Chanel Haute Couture and Jenna Lyons in a dazzling pyjama style trouser suit.
Feeling inspired by the looks from the event we created our very own ‘Chinese White Tie’ edit on Pinterest. Go all out by opting for beaded floral patterns like this Valentino Vintage Shift or give a subtle nod to the micro trend by incorporating cocoon sleeves or a high necked collar which have both been pulled together beautifully in the silk Joseph dress.
